Third grade is the first year that students take the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test in reading and math. Our three outstanding teachers who prepare your children for these important tests are Mrs. Janet Davis, Mrs. Jackie Embry and Mrs. Jamie Hemphill.

THIRD GRADE NEWS!

Look here throughout the year for classroom updates.

Janet Davis – Mrs. Davis is the newest member of a three-member team of third grade teachers, but she brings a tremendous amount of experience to the classroom. She holds certifications in English and History for grades 6-12, in elementary education for grades 1-8, and early childhood education for pre-K and kindergarten. She has taught every grade except 4th and 8th throughout the 31 years she has taught. Her wide range of experience may come as a result of her husband, John, who was a school principal for NISD years ago and now serves on the board of trustees. They have lived in Hilltop Lakes for the past 11 years, and she has taught six of those years in NISD. She and John have two children, both of whom graduated from Normangee High School, and she also has two grown stepsons in Houston who have three children. They love spending time with them in their spare time!

Jackie Embry – Mrs. Embry graduated from Texas A & M with a B.S. in Education. She is certified to teach Early Childhood and English as a Second Language. This is her sixth year of teaching, three of those here at NES. Before joining the NES family, she taught Content Mastery and fifth grade language arts in North Zulch. Mrs. Embry loves to do creative things in her classroom to keep the students engaged, including putting up fun bulletin boards. She and her husband James, who is a chemist, live in Normangee with their son and two daughters.

Jamie Hemphill – Mrs. Hemphill has spent four of her nine years teaching at NES. She is certified to teach pre-K through eighth grade and has classroom experience in kindergarten, third grade, fifth grade, and sixth grade. She and her husband Patrick have lived in Normangee since 1995 with their two children. Mrs. Hemphill really enjoys spending time outdoors and reading good books!
