“SPECIALS”/P.E.

Students at NES have a time each week called “Specials.” During this set time each week, they go to MUSIC, the COMPUTER LAB, and the LIBRARY.

During music they learn about music theory, instruments, and prepare for special programs throughout the year such as Veteran’s Day, the Christmas program, and Kindergarten graduation. Our music teacher is John Easterling. (Information and photo coming soon.)

During computer lab, students learn keyboarding and software programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. In addition, students have access to Study Island, a web-based interactive program that provides math and science instruction in the form of games. It is completely aligned with the state curriculum requirements and the TAKS tests.

In our library, kids have access to tons of great books! They can come in and read quietly, or explore new horizons, or take themselves on adventures galore! Mrs. Carol Malkey is our library aide. She is there to greet children, help them select books, and keeps the library running smoothly and efficiently.

NES offers students a high-quality physical education program that includes sports, aerobic activities, games, health and wellness, and more. Students in grades K through 5 have a full 45 minute class period each day, unless they are pulled for one of our special programs such as HOSTS. Classes are taught by Diana DeStefano and assisted by Jacob Dent and Joe Woodard, coaches at Normangee Middle School and Normangee High School.

Diana DeStefano – “Coach D” has taught for 11 years, four of those in Normangee. She has also taught first grade, as well as middle school and high school language arts and math. Coach D has a daughter who will graduate from UT this May, and her favorite thing to do is spend time with her as well as other family and friends.
